| Gendarmenmarkt |
| Gendarmenmarkt in the middle of Berlin, Stadtmitte, hosts at least four sights: the German and French Cathedrals, a theatre (das Schauspielhaus) and the Schiller Monument. The square existed in the 17th Century and the cathedrals have been there since the 18th Century. The German Cathedral was of course destroyed in WWII, and only restored in 1993. The theatre has been in Gendarmenmarkt since 1821, although it was also destroyed in the war, but it has been restored according to its original design. Schiller has been standing in his place since 1871. Enjoy the photos starting with the German Cathedral! In the end there are photos of the theatre and, like in the second picture, Schiller. |
