Tiergarten
Tiergarten is a park right in the middle of Berlin, and lies between the old centres of West and East Berlin. In the beginning the park was a hunting ground for Joachim the Younger in the 16th Century, but was later turned into a public garden by Frederick the Great. Almost needless to say, the trees in the park were cut down for heating reasons in WWII. In 1949 it was decided that there should be trees in the park again, and today it is difficult to imagine that there was a potato field in the park and no trees whatsoever.
